Drinking this breakfast smoothie every morning will not only provide you with a nutritious meal, but it will improve your health and give you lots of energy.  You will be amazed at the difference it will make.
It is made with both fruits and vegetables – we will be using spinach.  Don’t frown – you won’t even taste the spinach – all you will taste is the fruit – which makes it the perfect breakfast for children.

This delicious smoothie – known as a Green Smoothie – is easy to digest and delivers lots of vitamins and antioxidants to help you achieve optimum health.
Ingredients:
1 large banana
¾ cup frozen strawberries
1 cup baby spinach
1 c up pineapple
1 packet stevia (optional)
1 cup almond milk
1 tablespoon ground flax seed
This recipe makes about four cups – enough for one or two servings.
Directions:
Place the baby spinach in the blender with the one cup of almond milk.  Blend for 30 seconds or until all the greens are liquid.  Add remaining ingredients and blend until smooth.
Tips:
Depending on what type of blender you are using, you may have to add more liquid (either water or more almond milk).  Sometimes the ingredients are too thick to blend in lower speed blenders.
You can substitute any of the fruits for different ones that you prefer.  I usually try to add at least one frozen fruit – you can add more if you like.
You can break the banana into small chunks and freeze it in a baggie.  I normally keep two or three baggies full of bananas in my freezer.
I almost always add a banana to my smoothies – it provides a thicker texture.
As you get more used to these Green Smoothies you can gradually increase the amount of greens in your breakfast smoothie.  This recipe uses one cup – but I now add three or four handfuls of greens to mine.    Most green smoothies are made with a sixty percent ratio of fruit to a forty percent ratio of greens.
Use a variety of greens in your Breakfast Smoothies – such as kale, romaine lettuce, dandelion greens, chard, parsley or mustard greens.  I like purchasing the bags or containers of mixed greens.  They are already washed and ready to go.
Try to buy organic greens and fruits when you can.   You can mix and match any greens and any fruits.
I always add ground flax seed to my breakfast smoothie.  Flax seed provides heart healthy Omega-3 essential fatty acids and lots of beneficial fiber.   I purchase the whole flax seeds and grind up the amount that I need each day – that way they don‘t lose any nutrients.  You can grind them in your blender.   Keep your flax seeds in the refrigerator.
The almond milk that you purchase in the store comes in Unsweetened, Regular, Vanilla or Chocolate.  You can choose which one you prefer – the Vanilla and Chocolate do have more calories and cane sugar in them.  I usually use the regular.
The stevia in this recipe is optional.  When people first start drinking Green Smoothies they tend to like them sweeter.  As you become more used to them, you may decide not to add the stevia.
Although this recipe is for a Breakfast Smoothie, they are also great for lunch or dinner.  I often have two or three of these a day.  They are a very healthy meal replacement and provide you with all of your servings of vegetables and fruits for the day.
